This book was a lot of fun mainly because, like another reviewer said, the characters were so likeable and entertaining. Dave, a nondescript medical supply salesman who has one minor superpower (yes, involving tea), joins up with an unlikely pair of new friends to take down a bad guy who is after him. The story was completely implausible but still very entertaining. Dave's wife, a former CEO, is in prison for embezzlement and one of the stockholders, a very bad guy who lost money when her company went down because of her, is after Dave to get his money back. Dave meets Liza when he misses his bus after a prison visit with his wife. Liza is a tough lesbian roller derby queen who was just released for assault. Liza offers him a ride and that's where the real fun starts. It was just a pleasure to watch the relationship build between Liza and Dave; two people who would never have normally have met or become friends. Then Jean joins in, a funny outrageous gay guy who helps with disguises and such. These unlikely friends empower each other and try to resolve the problems with the bad guys. One thing I really liked is that it was such a light read. Not a lot of violence, even with the action and adventure. This author manages exciting plot action and good vs. bad guys without intensity or blood and guts. Well done!
I really hope there's a sequel with more adventures of Dave, Liza and Jean.

Trouble Brewing edition by Edward Winslow Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Delightful free read! Cool characters. Quick and fun.
This was mildly entertaining. THe fact that he has a magical power with limited usefulness is a cool premise that was not fully exploited. The sub characters were interesting, but again, not fully developed, and the ending was a major anti-climatic non-ending.
Interesting premise...and a quick read. I laughed through some of the book; I was a little lost or wondering if some of the book was a little "piece-mealed" together. Not a bad book; not my favorite. 2.5 stars
A fun quirky read that held my interest even with its somewhat bizarre "tea superhero" concept. Main character Dave was likeable and although the the plot was not without its holes, in the end, I enjoyed the story as a whole. And for a free read through kindle/, I'd say its worth the effort and the price.
I totally enjoyed reading this and will look forward to reading more of his work. Well Done!
This book is perfect for reading when its cool and rainy and windy out, curled up on the couch with a cup of hot tea and a throw...which is exactly how I read it (except that it was a chair and a glass mug). And remarkable how the book's New Zealand weather resembles summer in Southeast Alaska. )
Dave is a very normal guy having abnormally large problems - his wife embezzled a lot of money from some thug who will kill him to it back, he lost his house when the authorities seized all their assets, and at the moment, he's hanging on as best he can to a horrible job. These aren't the sorts of problems that can be solved over a nice hot cup of tea...except that maybe they are, if you know just how to make your tea work for you!
I identified immediately with Dave - he doesn't want all the trouble he's inherited and doesn't know that being nice will only get him killed. His new friends are funny, resourceful, and perfect sidekicks for him. The story itself is rowdy and funny and full of a sort of bemused suspense that will keep you hanging on until the last page.
By a simple device, barely utilized in the book, the author converted his story into a fantasy. Whether he felt it necessary to do so make his story hold together or whether it was an essential device from the beginning, I can't say. Oh, yes, no secret. We learn about it before anything much happens in the book, he can heat or cool tea, and only tea, with his bare hands to the highest and lowest temperatures. What might be a light-hearted adventure romp wherein the 90 pound weakling becomes Charles Atlas with the help of friends, becomes a light-hearted fantasy adventure in which the merely human always has to take a back-seat to the miraculous. This choice vitiates the qualities which the weakling's friends bring to the table, strength, an adventurous spirit, multiple talents in getting together whatever is needed for a particular situation, none can compete with The Gift. The book should be entertaining for most potential readers, although it does have one of those endings which seem to be induced by author weariness. Once again, it is saved by the fact that it is all fantasy so that no illogicalities are out of place.
